Patrick Fletcher graduated in 1975 with an Honours B.Arch Degree from University College Dublin. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects He joined Wejchert Architects in 1975, was made an Associate in 1984 and Partner in 1999. Patrick was Joint Managing Director with David Lanigan from 2010 to 2019.

His work in Wejchert Architects has been broad and varied, with an emphasis on educational and cultural & spiritual buildings as well as a number of private houses. He focuses on designing and delivering buildings which provide the best places to work and to learn. His main interests are sustainability and low energy design – he was Partner in charge of The Waterford Institute of Technology Library, which won the Minister for Environment’s Sustainability 2000 Award, the Nurse Education Building which won a Green Good Design Award in 2009,the Tourism and Leisure Building which won a Green Good Design Award in 2011, the Crematorium & Congregation building in Dardistown Cemetery and a Swimming Pool for a Private College in County Kildare which both won a Green Good Design Awards in 2019.

Recently he was involved in the winning consortium for Courts Bundle 1 PPP and was team leader for the Waterford Courthouse project, completed in early 2018. Patrick has a wealth of experience in PPP developments, including the successfully delivered PPP Schools Bundles 1 and 2, for which he was team leader for schools in Banagher, Portlaoise completed in 2010 and Kildare and Athboy to be completed in 2011.

Patrick is current Project Director on the redevelopment of 70 St. Stephen’s Green (formerly Hainault House), Lucan Community College and the refurbishment of the Cathedral of the Assumption in Tuam, Co. Galway.

Among other projects for which he was responsible are; Beresford Court for Irish Life, Offices at Platin for Irish Cement, The O’Rahilly Building Phases I & II for University College Cork; The Information Technology Building and Canteen for Waterford Institute of Technology, The Robert Schuman and Kathleen Lonsdale Buildings for University of Limerick; Community Schools at Brookfield Tallaght, Youghal and Castleknock; Primary schools in Dalkey and Ranelagh, Dublin and the refurbishment of Knock Basilica, Co. Mayo.

Patrick develops a close working relationship with all client bodies and their representatives. He believes that good communication throughout with the client, design and procurement teams are essential.

Patrick was a member of the RIAI Competence Task Force which defined the role of the architect leading up to Registration and currently serves on the RIAI Design for Education and Procurement Committees. He was project architect on the ITE Media Business Centre, Warsaw and partner-in-charge of the ITI Group HQ Building in Cracow. Patrick was involved as architectural assessor of the Glasnevin Centenary Chapel project.
