International Architectural Competition.
The concept for the design of this club and residential contest emanated from the need to balance what is 'man-made' with what is 'natural' in highly populated Hong Kong. The Peak, like the sea, is an area that should be confined to the 'natural' idiom. Therefore, the plan was conceived as an extension to the hill, with a crater-like internal volume opening to the sky. The crust of this artificial mound is made of containers with earth and planting, and glazed openings. This façade, when planted, will integrate with the surrounding, looking like an overgrown hill rather than a building.
By adopting such an approach, and enlightened example could be set for others to follow, reverting the tendency of developments to pollute this very important natural landmark for the whole of Hong Kong.
