Located at Waterford Regional Hospital the new centre provides specialist assessment and treatment for children and includes accommodation for Physiotherapy, Consulting, Gait Laboratory, a Seating and Mobility Workshop. The building is single storey with some double height volumes wrapped in a stone wall. This acts as a screen and gives the building a landmark presence. Functions are arranged around a central courtyard providing light, ventilation and easy orientation. This is further aided by vibrant coloured ceiling features animating the circulation spaces which are light filled and generous providing informal assessment areas. Universal access and close client consultation have been fundamental throughout the design of the project. A low energy design has been achieved through air tightness, insulation, heat recovery ventilation and intelligent low energy lighting – with performance in excess of building regulations.
Green innovation - passive tempered fresh air and a user friendly electronic screen for building occupants to follow energy use.
