The new Medical Assessment Unit & Day Services Building at Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise was successfully completed and handed over to the HSE on Friday 15th April 2016. This was made possible by the concerted efforts of the HSE, Design Team, Main Contractor (Purcell Construction) and their sub-contractors and specialists.
The new building is carefully sited to allow connectivity to main hospital and to allow for future expansion of the hospital to the south of the new building and future expansion to the west on adjoining HSE lands across the other side of Block Road. The proposed development includes a Hospital Street which may in the future be extended across to these lands and above Block Road. The external design of the proposed building had been developed using a sensitive design approach to the existing context with high quality architectural proposals to provide a modern addition which sits comfortably with its existing neighbouring buildings. The roof has a curved roof which relates to existing curved building forms on site. The external walls are clad in white rainscreen cladding.
