The intention was to provide a modern fit for propose primary healthcare facility that would be a significant asset in regard to the delivery of Healthcare in the locality. Primary healthcare facilities enable joined up localised care and reduce the need of visits to the Regional Hospital.
The new Primary Care Centre in Grange is located on the edge of the town and highly visible from an elevated location when entering Grange. Simple sculptural roof forms enables this important community health facility to be easily distinguished from the surrounding buildings, while also creating a landmark on the approach to the village. The roof form takes its Inspiration from the sculptural form of the Dartry Mountains, with three slipped volumes giving a dynamic roof form and order to the massing of the building. A palette of materials is simple masonry, render and aluminium panels. Accommodation is organised around an opened sided courtyard sheltering a pleasant amenity space .The building is orientated on site in such a way as to capture the southern light in the courtyard and the clinical rooms.
This building type has to cater for a number of stakeholders and to balance their needs, the layout of the building was designed as result of significant consultations with the user groups. The Centre at Grange is the Hub in a Hub and Spoke model. In tandem and as part of this model, we have also completed and handed over a new Primary Care Centre in the neighbouring Drumcliff.
To compliment these Primary Care facilities, an Ambulance Outreach base at Grange allows for the deployment of ambulances in order to provide a more rapid response times around the region.
