Planning permission has been Granted for the new 97 bed Ward Block at Wexford General Hospital. The building will provide much needed additional bed capacity and modern clinical accommodation for the community of Wexford and the wider region.
The development will consist of 6 storeys, with services plant rooms at roof level. The accommodation will comprise In-Patient Wards with single occupancy bedrooms and private Ensuites. Single bedrooms offer many advantages in relation to patient care, comfort, dignity and infection control. Ancillary accommodation provided at each ward includes staff base, utilities, meeting room, stores and visitor rooms. Staff Changing facilities, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy rooms are also provided at Lower Ground Floor level.
Accommodation is arranged around two landscaped courtyards allowing natural light and ventilation into the facility, thereby providing a pleasant comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors. The building is of contemporary design: elevations are simple, elegant and harmonious.Elevations are horizontally divided by projecting cornices and feature a dynamic pattern of cladding and windows that is highlighted by coloured fins giving a visually pleasing rhythm. The design also makes provision for the future phased development of a further clinical services block. Enabling works have commenced on site and include a new multi-storey car park and electrical diversions.
