This new Community Primary Care Centre will bring together under one roof, treatment, care and information services to the Thurles area. Our design is based on horizontal planes and limits the vertical impact of the building and seeks to minimise visual disturbance for the surrounding dwellings. We have designed the Pharmacy component of the building adjacent to the Protected Structure but also slightly pulled back from the building line on Mitchel Street. This is to allow the shape of the existing terrace and gable of same to be clearly seen and to form a subtle break in the streetscape. The location of the building is acknowledging the protected status of the retained terrace building and the Urban Zone in the local area plan by continuing a critical mass along Mitchel Street while also gently providing a setback for the new build additions.
The proposed new building elements are located as a linear rear accompaniment to the protected two storey structure on the streetscape of Mitchel Street. The proposed Pharmacy outlet is located as a subservient side addition to the South east with the main primary care entrance safely tucked alongside the side set down and accessible car parking areas. The form of the Pharmacy to invite patients and visitors towards the main entrance and is glazed to provide much needed “life” and vibrancy to this portion of Mitchel Street.
